Comptoir sans lolo

A new modern and quality place of conviviality which opens its doors: it is always a beautiful news. Especially after the health crisis we have been through. A new catering establishment is good news for entrepreneurship and the local economy.

So when we learned that Laurent Munster, a well-known entrepreneur in the capital of Arlon (in Belgium, a stone's throw from the Luxembourg border) was opening his own beer bar, we had to pass on the information.

This zythology enthusiast has been running a special beer shop called "Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon" since 2019. And the least we can say is that it's a hit. So he decided to set up the dream that had always been in him. "When I took over the business three years ago, I already had this desire to open a bar. Then, with the covid, I lost sight of this objective. But that was without counting on my friend Frédéric. One evening in December 2020, he was helping me in the shop and we started to dream over a good beer. That's when we felt like starting up. We immediately found the name, the concept was already there. All we needed was to orchestrate it all.

It took the friends almost a year to open their beer bar. What took time was finding the right premises. Their heart fell for the old Callemeyn barracks in Arlon, next to the charming restaurant "Le Victor". "It is an emblematic space in our city. You feel good here, it's cosy and pleasant. It's exactly the kind of atmosphere we imagined for our bar. And then, being located right next to our friend Clément Petitjean's restaurant is not insignificant. We share the same philosophy, that of working with craftsmen and independent producers. Not to mention that we complement each other well. Our customers will have an aperitif at our place and then sit down to dinner at his. Or they will start with a delicious menu at his place and continue their evening with a good beer at ours.

While waiting to open, Laurent and his friend Frédéric have had time to think about the concept. And it is based on one simple word: quality. No long menus or beers of any kind. Here, everything is studied down to the smallest detail, and customers will find a list of 10 beers, which will change regularly, to make the pleasure last, or not. "We will only drill 10 barrels, to keep the freshness and the quality that is needed. We will have 5 Belgian beers and 5 foreign beers on the slate, which will change regularly. Also, we will have a real gueuze cellar, something uncommon in the Greater Region. This will be our real speciality", Laurent Munster continues.

And then there will be a tasting formula, which should undoubtedly be appreciated by the most curious. "This is what we have called our "Beerflight", because it will take you on a journey. The Le p'tit belge formula will offer 4 x 12.5 cl Belgian beers. The Rock''N Roll will offer 4 selections of foreign beers. And the Le Comptoir formula will be a nice mix between the two, the customer will be able to choose two foreign beers and two Belgian ones. And then we'll offer appetizers to round it off, with cold cuts and cheeses from the region," concludes Laurent.

The opening hours are attractive and offer great flexibility for the customer: you can come for an aperitif, have dinner or come for a last drink at the end of the meal. The counter will be open on Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 11.30 pm. Friday and Saturday from 2 pm to midnight and Sunday from 5 pm to 10 pm.
