Opderschmelz

In Dudelange, 2007 was a year like no other. The centenary of the City of Dudelange, "Luxembourg and Greater Region, European Cultural Capital 2007" and the opening of the regional cultural centre "opderschmelz" are the three major events that made it a real turning point.

While the cultural year is, at least unofficially, coming to an end, cultural activities in Dudelange are starting up again. The notion of sustainability takes on its full meaning in this city, which is preparing for the official opening of its regional cultural centre in December.

A number of new experiences, from live cinema and literary and musical performances to multi-disciplinary audiovisual shows, as well as numerous exclusivities and "premieres", will reflect the organisers' desire to stand out from current productions and to act resolutely off the beaten track, while remaining attentive to an increasingly diverse and demanding public.

The very representative programme for December 2007 lays the foundations for a colourful and original palette that will reconcile high artistic quality with accessibility for the greatest number of spectators. From 8 December onwards, the doors of this impressive building will open wide to the public, who will have the opportunity to discover its space and atmosphere. The first two concerts in the centre's sumptuous auditorium will be free of charge during these open days.

During the first three months of 2008, other equally exceptional performances with prestigious names will be added to the programme of this first cultural season.

The cultural offer of Dudelange is far from being exhausted, and it is not limited to the "opderschmelz" cultural centre. It should be remembered that exhibitions of international standing will still be held at the two art centres Dominique Lang (contemporary art) and Nei Liicht (audiovisual arts).
