About Domaine Claude Bentz

The Claude Bentz Wine Estate stands out for the quality of its products and its traditional know-how.

OUR HISTORY

The Claude Bentz vineyard enjoys a fine reputation for quality and traditional expertise.

Joseph Bentz founded the winemaking firm in Bech-Kleinmacher in 1933. The business, now in its third generation, is managed by his grandson Claude Bentz, who in 1986 built the present-day wine cellars in Remich.

In 1968 Dr. Jean-Claude Loutsch designed the vineyard crest, a foliate, fruiting grapevine used on bottle labels serving as a symbol of the vintner´s craft.

In 1993, Claude Bentz became the first vintner on the Luxembourg section of the Moselle to install a complex computerised fermentation control system. Optimal quality is achieved by way of precise temperature controls during the entire fermentation process.

For the past 25 years, the emphasis has been on growing traditional top varieties. The range includes Riesling, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and Gewürztraminer.

The  vineyard now owns wine growing areas at premium sites on the Luxembourg stretch of the Moselle.

In 2001, the Claude Bentz vineyard received accolades of the highest order, named official purveyor to the Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg and designated "Fournisseur de la Cour".

The Claude Bentz winery invites guests to taste the new vintage each year, in spring and autumn. Well-known artists from Luxembourg have been collaborating closely with the vineyard on tasting days since 1995.  Guests are free to use the vineyard´s extensive gardens during wine-tasting sessions.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

What makes the Claude Bentz winery exceptional is the careful selection of grape varieties, high-quality raw materials and gentle fermentation processes.

Our vineyard focusses on prime varieties with low yields. Quality levels are enhanced by pruning the grapevines annually, allowing each vine to concentrate on producing fewer fruits.

For a winemaker, it´s important that each wine has its own taste, colour and bouquet.

All stages of production aim for the highest quality, bringing out the optimal aspects of each individual wine´s character. The wine retains a very strong primary aroma due to computerised temperature controls applied throughout the entire fermentation procedure and a decelerated fermentation process, and this has a favourable effect on the taste of young wines.

These procedures yield distinctive, highly aromatic wines with a floral, fruity note typical for the region.

Our events

Domaine Claude Bentz organizes tasting days every year in May and September.

On the tasting days you can also use the beautiful garden of Georgie Bentz, Claude Bentz's wife, with a size of almost one hectare, where you can end the afternoon in a cosy atmosphere with a glass of wine.

Outside these days the Domaine offers you the possibility to organize a group tasting (from 15 persons and only by appointment) in our cellars or, if the weather permits, in our gardens.
